Can you spot the difference? Mounties say fake $100 bill was used at Neepawa store

Mounties are investigating the passing of counterfeit Canadian currency in a Manitoba community.

Mounties are encouraging Manitobans to take a second look at cash coming into the till, after someone used a fake $100 bill at a store in Neepawa.

It happened back in mid-November at a business on Mountain Avenue. Police said on Nov. 19, someone used a counterfeit bill during a purchase.

When officers got to the store, the employee handed over the $100 bill that was used. Police said the cash had noticeable defects on it.

Now Mounties are investigating other spots in Neepawa where counterfeit bills may have also been used.

Police released an image of the person who is alleged to have used the counterfeit bill and are asking anyone who may know their identity to call the Neepawa RCMP detachment at [phone].

Along with this, police provided the following tips if you suspect someone is giving you a counterfeit note:

• Politely refuse the note and explain that you suspect that it may be counterfeit.
• Ask for another note (and check it too).
• Advise the person to check the note with the local police.
• Inform your local police of a possible attempt to pass suspected counterfeit money.
• Be courteous. Remember that the person in possession of the bill could be an innocent victim who does not realize that the note is suspicious.

The RCMP said any suspected counterfeit notes should be turned over to police, noting if it turns out to be real money – you would get the cash back.
