The Ontario government is giving Windsor Fire and Rescue Services $119,211 for new equipment. The Fire Protection Grant funding will be used to purchase a bunker gear washer extractor, bunker gear dryer cabinet, an SCBA air fill compressor, and additional personal protective gear. “Cancer is one of the most serious occupational challenges our firefighting profession faces,” said Windsor fire Chief James Waffle. “This provincial investment demonstrates a meaningful commitment to prevention, awareness, and firefighter health, and we sincerely thank the provincial government for supporting Windsor Fire and Rescue Services and firefighters across Ontario.” This equipment is expected to help ensure firefighters have access to clean, safe gear, reducing exposure to harmful contaminants and allowing them to perform their duties safely and effectively. This funding will support eligible projects including: Government officials say this year’s Fire Protection Grant will support all 380 municipal fire services in Ontario, helping the 33,000 firefighters in Ontario.
