Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers intercepted multiple prohibited weapons and other contraband during four separate incidents at Windsor border crossings in August. The seizures involved U.S. residents attempting to enter Canada through the Gordie Howe International Bridge and Ambassador Bridge ports of entry. On Aug. 18, officers at the Gordie Howe bridge seized a prohibited firearm, a magazine and six rounds of ammunition from a U.S. resident. The traveller was arrested and paid a $1,000 penalty. Two separate seizures took place at the Gordie Howe crossing on Aug. 22. In the first, officers found a restricted firearm, a prohibited firearm and two magazines. The traveller was arrested and fined $2,500. In the second incident that day, officers seized two prohibited firearms, 948 rounds of ammunition, a magazine, a prohibited crossbow and 16 cans of THC-infused beverages. The traveller was arrested and assessed a $3,000 penalty. A day later, on Aug. 23, officers at the Ambassador Bridge seized a prohibited firearm from a U.S. resident. The traveller was arrested and paid a $1,000 penalty. In total, the four incidents resulted in the seizure of five prohibited firearms, one restricted firearm, nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition, a prohibited crossbow and THC-infused beverages.
