Windsor-based StratusAgro wins $20,000 at ScaleUP pitch competition

Windsor-based StratusAgro was successful, walking out with the top prize from the recent WEtech Alliance ScaleUP Showcase and Pitch Competition.

The nine companies that partook are graduates from WEtech Alliance’s ScaleUP Accelerator program, which offers help growing their business.

“Yesterday’s ScaleUP Showcase and Pitch Finale marked a new level of growth for the program and a strong signal of what’s ahead,” WEtech Alliance president and CEO, Yvonne Pilon said.

“With nearly double the number of companies, expanded geographic reach, and an exceptional level of talent, this year’s cohort brought incredible depth and energy to the stage, reflecting a growing pipeline of founders building and scaling across Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Ontario.”

StratusAgro, a company that makes modular greenhouse plastics and a new Thermaroot climate technology, took the grand prize in the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition.

“ThermaRoot proves that world-class agtech innovation starts right here in Southwestern Ontario,” said Colby Wu with StratusAgro.

“Libro Credit Union’s investment in ScaleUP gives founders like us the backing to turn great ideas into real impact — better crops, lower energy costs, and stronger communities. This win means everything to our team.”

Attendees also were able to voice their opinion on the winner, naming TransitRewards the People’s Choice Award winner, granting them $2,500.

TransitRewards is an app that allows commuters to claim rewards for their daily public transportation use and lets them redeem those points for rewards.
