Chatham-Kent police say a 57-year-old Wheatley man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash. On June 12 at 4:29p.m., officers responded to a report of a collision on Erie Street South in Romney Township. The investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by a 57-year-old man struck a berm before becoming airborne and landing on the beach. Police say no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the collision. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. He was initially taken to Leamington District Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital. Due to the severity of the collision and the injuries sustained, members of the Traffic Management Unit attended the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Erie Street South was closed for several hours but has since been reopened. The investigation remains ongoing.
