WATCH: Santa touches down in Windsor

Santa Claus landed in Windsor, Ont. on Sunday by helicopter, greeted by hundreds.

As part of the unofficial kick off to Windsor’s holiday season, Santa Claus has come to town.

In a dark red helicopter, Santa Claus descended from the clouds Sunday to greet hundreds of visitors at the Devonshire Mall.

“It was really cool,” said Jack Merry, adding, “Because It’s Santa.”

Through frigid wind, children sat cozied up to their parents before Santa’s arrival.

On hand to greet Jolly Old St. Nick were members of the Windsor Optimist Youth Band and Windsor Fire with Sparky’s Toy Drive.

Santa’s landing at the Devonshire kicks off the opportunity for families to meet with the man himself and share their Christmas desires for the holiday season.

For Merry, this time of year is about more than just the gifts under the tree.

“I like that you get to spend time with your family,” he said.
