Travelling with your pet for the holidays? Here are some tips to make the experience more enjoyable

With the holiday season underway, Windsorites may be travelling out of town to celebrate.

For those travelling with a pet, Canada’s pet care community, Rover, has some advice on best practices.

• Ease pets into travel ahead of time. Dogs should be comfortable travelling in a car, while cats should be exposed to a carrier.
• Pack with your pet in mind. Bring food, medications, leashes, waste bags and favourite toys.
• Secure pets properly while in transit. Dogs should be in either a harness of travel crate, while cats should travel in a well-ventilated carrier.
• Plan for comfort along the way. Take regular breaks to dogs to stretch and hydrate, keep an eye out for sickness and anxiety and keep vehicles at a comfortable temperature.
