Special weather statement in effect for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect, but has since been lifted.

The statement says more heavy rainfall is possible Wednesday and into Thursday and could cause some flooding as the ground is already near saturation.

Environment Canada says ‘several more rounds’ of thunderstorms and showers are possible by the end of the day on Thursday. Water is likely to pool on roads and low-lying areas.

Drivers are reminded to avoid driving in low areas and to stay indoors during thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Showers or thunderstorms, local amount 10 to 20 millimetres. Wind southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h. High 18 C, humidex 25 C.

Wednesday night: Showers or thunderstorms, local amount 10 to 20 millimetres. Wind becoming south 20 km/h before morning, temperature steady around 16 C.

Thursday: Showers or thunderstorms, local amount 5 to 10 millimetres. Wind south 20 km/h becoming southwest 40 gusting to 60 late in the morning. High 21 C, humidex 26 C.

Thursday night: Cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers. Low 12 C.

Friday: Clearing. High 19 C.

Friday night: Increasing cloudiness, low 12 C.
