Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Windsor-Essex

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Windsor-Essex.

The forecaster says conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.

The wind gusts could reach 110 kilometres per hour. Large hail up 4 centimetres is also possible. There is a risk of a tornado.

A cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger the severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon.

Environment Canada advices anyone in the area to be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm.
