A judicial recount for the riding of Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore confirmed that Conservative Kathy Borrelli has won the seat. A representative for Elections Canada confirmed to CTV News late Thursday evening Borrelli beat former Liberal MP Irek Kusmierczyk by a margin of four votes. This follows a judicial recount requested by Kusmierczyk. Borrelli arrived at the Elections Canada office in Tecumseh to celebrate the victory with her team. She declined to comment on the win. A spokesperson for Kusmierczyk said he was not available for an interview. The result puts an end to a three-day process in which more than 70,000 ballots were recounted, and lawyers for both parties made legal arguments over contested ballots. The media was not allowed to report on the nature of the arguments being made. Initial results released after the election showed Borrelli won the riding by 233 votes over Kusmierczyk. However, the gap was narrowed to 77 votes after validation by Elections Canada staff. The following week Kusmierczyk successfully argued for the judicial recount. Borrelli will now make her way to Ottawa, where Parliament is expected to resume on Monday.
