Multi-vehicle E.C. Row crash leads to impaired driving charge: WPS

A crash on the E.C. Row Expressway on Wednesday has led to impaired driving charges.

Around 3:30 p.m., police were called to a collision in the westbound lanes of E.C. Row near the Dougall Avenue off-ramp.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a heavily damaged Dodge Caliber in a ditch and two other vehicles nearby with minor damage.

Police said the Dodge Caliber was headed westbound when the traffic slowed due to construction and a lane closure. The driver allegedly did not slow down in time, veered to the right, and hit two vehicles before crossing the guardrail and rolling down the embankment.

When officers spoke to the driver, they said there were signs of impairment, like slurred speech and the smell of alcohol.

The driver, a woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries where breath tests were done.

A 55-year-old woman has been charged with driving a vehicle while impaired. Her license has been suspended for seven days.
