Windsor police said they have arrested one man after he allegedly had repeated ‘hate-motivated communication’ with the city’s Jewish community. On Tuesday, police launched the investigation after two Jewish community organizations said they received several voicemails with anti-Semitic and derogatory language. The Windsor Police Service said between April 23 and May 5, several unwanted voicemails were left by the same suspect. The messages didn’t have direct threats of harm, but the WPS said the tone, frequency, and content displayed targeted harassment. Just after midnight on Thursday, the suspect was arrested at a downtown Windsor home. “The Windsor Police Service takes all reports of hate-motivated incidents seriously,” said Major Crimes Staff Sgt. Ted Novak. “Targeting people or organizations because of their religion or identity causes real harm, not only to those directly affected, but to the wider community. This kind of conduct has no place in our community.” The 31-year-old man has been charged with two counts of harassing communications.
