‘Lake-to-Lake’ traffic blitz leads to 91 charges

The Windsor Police Service Traffic Enforcement Unit has laid 91 charges as part of a cross-jurisdictional traffic safety initiative.

The “Lake to Lake – Focused and Safe” initiative aims to reduce distracted driving through increased enforcement and officer visibility along key transportation corridors in Ontario and Michigan, in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police and Michigan State Police.

On April 1, Windsor police officers conducted concentrated enforcement along Huron Church Road from the Ambassador Bridge to the Highway 401 city limits, as well as Dougall Parkway.

As a result of the enforcement initiative, officers issued 91 charges for a variety of offences, including speeding, red light violations, suspended driving, unlicensed driving, misuse of plates, and driving without insurance.

A 38-year-old motorist was charged with stunt driving after officers say they saw a vehicle travelling at 101 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.
