An extended heatwave has arrived in Windsor-Essex. Environment Canada has issued a yellow heat warning and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has also issued an extended heat warning for the region. Maximum temperatures of 30 to 36 Celsius are expected. Humidex values of 37C to 45C. The heat event is predicted to last from Monday through Friday and possibly into the weekend. Maximum temperatures of 30C to 32C and humidex values of 37 to 42 are expected on Monday. Heat and humidity will increase further beginning Tuesday with maximum temperatures of 31C to 36C and humidex values of 40 to 45. Minimum temperatures of 21C to 25C will provide little relief from the heat. WECHU’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mehdi Aloosh says everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults, infants and young children, people who work or exercise in the heat, and those with certain medical conditions. Warning signs of heat-related illness include dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, weakness, and confusion. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
