Environment Canada warns of severe thunderstorms, hazardous travel conditions

A tornado warning for parts of Essex County has come down, but a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect.

As of 1:50 p.m., Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

The line of thunderstorms is showing on the radar near Leamington, moving east at 30 km/h.

Winds could be gusting up to 90 km/h with heavy rain and dime-sized hail.

Meteorologists warn that heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility.

Residents are advised to take immediate shelter if a thunderstorm approaches. Those outdoors should seek protection from potential flying debris.
