‘Play it Loud! – How Toronto Got Soul’ is set to play at the Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) on Friday. The documentary explores the significance of Caribbean, Jamaican, and reggae music coming alive in Toronto in the late 60s and early 70s. Jay Douglas, known as the lead singer of The Cougars, was one of the biggest talents of the time and is part of the documentary. At the screening, director Graeme Mathieson, producer Andrew Munger, and Jay Douglas will all be present. The storyline sees Douglas’ life story, starting as a boy in Jamaica, immigrating to Canada and living in Toronto. In addition to Douglas, the documentary will also feature interviews with Dunbar, Jackie Richardson, Cadence Weapon, Michael Williams, and more. More information is available here.
