Byng Road fire now suspected arson: WPS

One person is injured and a dog is dead after a fire, leading to an arson investigation in Windsor.

Windsor police have deemed a fire on Byng Road Sunday night a suspected arson.

The fire left one person hurt and a dog dead.

Just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to a house fire in the 3500 block of Byng. The blaze was quickly put out by fire officials.

A man inside the house was able to escape by jumping out of a second-floor window and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters were able to rescue a cat, but one dog died. Two pets are missing.

Windsor Fire said the smoke alarm at the top of the stairs was not working at the time of the fire.

According to Fire officials, the damage is estimated at $550,000.

The fire is believed to have originated on the rear deck, and the cause will be listed as ‘undetermined.’
