Thetis Lake log sign restoration underway to preserve iconic landmark

For generations of visitors, a trip to Thetis Lake has come with a familiar welcome: the park’s distinctive log sign greeting people as they arrive.

Now, that longtime landmark is getting some much-needed attention.

Restoration work on the Thetis Lake Regional Park sign is moving ahead, with sandblasting completed and borate rods inserted into the log. The work is being done with the future in mind, with the goal of keeping the sign in place for at least another 10 years.

There is still plenty to come.

Over the next couple of months, crews will finish a new upper portion of the sign before staining the entire log in its former grey colour scheme.

For people visiting the park, the project is expected to have little impact on regular use or parking.

Visitors are asked to stay out of the work area and give staff plenty of space while the restoration continues.
