B.C. real estate agent loses licence after failing to pay $50K fine

A B.C. real estate agent has had her licence suspended after failing to pay a $50,000 fine handed to her earlier this year.

Afsaneh Zarshenas was ordered to pay the disciplinary penalty in February after the BC Financial Services Authority, the agency that regulates mortgage brokers throughout the province, determined she had used the services of unlicensed mortgage broker Jay Kanth Chaudhary.

Zarshenas was one of 23 people facing discipline proceedings as a result of working with Chaudhary. She was ordered to pay the fee within six months, pay expenses totaling $5,200 within two months, and complete a remedial education course in order to become licensed again.

According to a BCFSA consent order published Aug. 7, Zarshenas failed to comply with the order and had not paid the outstanding fee at the time the document was published.

“Afsaneh Zarshenas’ real estate trading services licence is suspended with immediate effect and until such time as Afsaneh Zarshenas complies with the order,” the document read.
