A 27-year-old woman is dead after a collision on Highway 97 in Lake Country Tuesday night, local Mounties say. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of the highway and Lodge Road, Lake Country RCMP said in a statement Wednesday. “A northbound Toyota Tacoma was attempting to turn left into a pullout directly across from Lodge Road when it was struck by a southbound Acura,” the statement reads. “The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles, which came to rest partially blocking the southbound lanes.” The Acura’s passenger became trapped and needed to be extricated by Lake Country firefighters, police said. She was taken to hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and have been co-operating with investigators, police said, adding that alcohol is not believed to have contributed to the crash. A collision analyst from B.C. Highway Patrol attended the scene, as did the B.C. Coroners Service, according to police. “The southbound lanes of Highway 97 were closed for several hours,” the statement reads. “However, traffic continued to flow using the northbound lanes.” Police said their investigation is ongoing. They’re asking anyone who “witnessed the driving behaviour of either vehicle prior to the collision” to contact them at 250-766-2288 and reference file number 2025-56924. Mounties are also seeking witnesses to the collision itself and dash-cam video from the area around the time of the incident.
