Woman assaulted with ‘edged weapon’ in mall parkade: Richmond RCMP

A woman was taken to hospital after being assaulted by a male stranger in the parkade of a Richmond mall Wednesday night, according to authorities.

Officers were called to the scene at Richmond Centre around 10:30 p.m. for a report of an assault with a weapon, a statement from Mounties said.

“Richmond RCMP received the call from an on-duty security guard who heard the commotion and intervened,” a spokesperson wrote.

“Officers quickly arrived on-scene and arrested the suspect without further incident. The suspect remains in-custody and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”

As of Friday morning, the victim was in stable condition in hospital, police added.

CTV News asked for more details about the incident and was told the suspect is a man in his 30s and the assault involved an “edged weapon.”
