A new subdivision in Leamington has cleared a key step toward development. Council has approved the rezoning of land at 538 Bevel Ln., just south of Mersea Road B, to allow for a proposed residential project. The draft plan of subdivision, submitted by Sorichetti Bros. Homes Inc., includes six semi-detached homes, 87 townhouse units and a three-storey apartment building with 40 units — for a total of 133 residential units on more than 14 acres. The plan also sets aside land for wetland protection and stormwater management. Most of the property was previously zoned for commercial use and required rezoning to residential to permit the development. The project is expected to introduce a mix of housing types in an area largely characterized by low-density residential development. The proposal will now be forwarded to the County of Essex, the approval authority, for consideration. Leamington council approved the report unanimously.
