Two Vancouver police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries when their marked cruiser was involved in a serious crash in the south Granville neighbourhood in the early hours of Sunday morning. The officers were responding to a crime in progress, with the lights and sirens activated on their vehicle when they collided with another vehicle just after 4 a.m., a spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement. The force of the crash sent the police car careening into a power pole at the intersection of Granville Street and West 13th Avenue and brought down overhead lines, including some used by TransLink. Photos and videos from the scene of the crash show significant fire damage inside the crumpled police car. Police say the driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured. A TransLink spokesperson said the crash damaged a trolley pole, which has since been repaired. Buses were temporarily rerouted, but normal service has resumed. VPD says the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
