Canada Soccer released its women’s roster Tuesday for its upcoming friendlies against Denmark in October, and two B.C. players are among the 26 named to the squad. Vancouver’s Julia Grosso and Emma Regan, from Burnaby, will represent Canada when they play Denmark on Oct. 9 in Montreal and Oct. 12 in Toronto. The 26-year-old Grosso, who plays her club soccer for the Chicago Stars in the National Women’s Soccer League, has scored five goals for Canada in 84 appearances, including one against Argentina in a friendly at BC Place in April 2025. Grosso most notably scored the game-winning penalty kick for Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, securing the gold medal. Regan, also 26-years-old, plays her club soccer for the expansion Denver Summit also in the NWSL, after spending last season with AFC Toronto of the Northern Super League. Regan has scored one goal for Canada over 21 appearances, and has become a more frequent member of Canada’s national women’s team in the past couple years. Grosso and Regan were both members of the Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite program from 2014 through 2018, and played together with TSS Rovers for one season in 2018 before playing collegiate soccer in the U.S. The two would go on to be teammates for the University of Texas Longhorns from 2018 through 2021. The upcoming friendlies against Denmark are Canada’s final tune-up before the upcoming CONCACAF W Championship in November, where they will face Panama in the quarterfinals on Nov. 28. A victory in that game will secure Canada a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. An appearance in the finals would also guarantee Canada qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Canada currently sit in ninth position in the FIFA women’s world rankings, with Denmark ranked 12th.
