Trans-Canada Highway partially closed after truck crash near Chilliwack, B.C.

Travellers on the Trans-Canada Highway were warned to expect major delays Friday morning after a semi-truck jackknifed on the highway east of Chilliwack, B.C.

The incident temporarily halted traffic for several kilometres in both directions between Annis Road and Highway 9, with detours in place at both exits.

The highway reopened to eastbound traffic shortly after 8 a.m., however westbound traffic was still being detoured off the highway, according to a social media post from the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit.

A brief statement from the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP said “injuries are minor” following the crash.

Emergency crews are on scene and drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible and watch out for traffic control personnel.

“We appreciate your patience and co-operation as responders work to clear the scene safely,” police said.

“All westbound traffic will have to take the Highway 9 exit into Rosedale/Agassiz,” the statement said. “Highway 1 eastbound traffic has been opened up, but it will be slow through this area.”
