A taxi driver struck and killed a pedestrian in downtown Vancouver Friday night, according to police. The victim, a 55-year-old man, was hit by a Blacktop Taxi at the intersection of Smithe and Cambie streets just after 10 p.m., the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement Saturday. He was pronounced dead in hospital. Police say the taxi driver suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene. Video from the scene shows a white sedan that also appears to have been involved in the collision. BC Emergency Health Services told CTV News it sent four ambulances to the scene and took two people to hospital in stable condition.
