A Surrey, B.C., home was targeted by gunfire for the second time in less than a month in what police believe is linked to an ongoing extortion-related conflict. The Surrey Police Service said the latest incident unfolded just after 4 a.m. on Thursday outside a South Newton residence in the area of 57 Avenue and 148 Street. Officers responding to the scene discovered evidence of gunfire outside the home. Police said the residence was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported. “The investigation is in its early stages, however, it is believed to be extortion related due to previous threats and a shots fired incident outside the residence on May 20,” the SPS said in a statement Thursday. “SPS’s Extortion Response Team has taken over the lead on the investigation and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services will be in the area processing physical and digital evidence.” Police are asking anyone with information, CCTV or dash-cam video related to the shooting to call them at 604-599-0502 or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and quote file number 26-56002 (SP).
