B.C. RCMP renew appeal for information in woman’s 1985 murder

More than four decades after a young woman was killed n Richmond, B.C., police are once again appealing for information on the case.

Forty years after a woman was found stabbed to death in Richmond, B.C., Mounties say their commitment to bringing the killer to justice “has not diminished.”

On the evening of Dec. 5, 1985, Kim Dianne Stolberg, 21, was on the phone with her sister talking about plans to throw a surprise party for their parents’ wedding anniversary.

“During the call, Kim told her sister that someone had entered the office whom she didn’t recognize and placed her sister on hold. She never returned to the phone,” the Richmond RCMP said in an appeal for information Thursday.

Less than an hour after putting her sister on hold, Stolberg was found dead in the office where she worked part-time for her family’s engineering business on the 7900 block of River Road, according to authorities.

Police say a detective with the Major Crimes Unit has been reviewing the file, using “contemporary tools” to try to make a break in the case.

Still, investigators think it’s possible a member of the public could have vital information.

“Someone out there knows something,” Staff Sgt. Gene Hsieh said, in a statement.

“Even a small detail, remembered now, could be the key to finding whoever was responsible for Kim’s death.”

The Richmond RCMP has released a video summarizing the case and the investigation thus far, and is encouraging people to view and share it.
