‘So low’: Nanaimo RCMP investigating theft of children’s skateboards, scooters

Mounties on Vancouver Island are hoping to reunite kids with skateboards and scooters stolen from a school last week.

The theft occurred on the morning of June 6 at Rock City Elementary school in Nanaimo, according to authorities.

“As soon as staff realized the items were missing, the incident was reported to the RCMP. In total, one skateboard, four scooters and two helmets were stolen. Police conducted patrols of the area but were unsuccessful,” Const. Gary O’Brien said in a statement.

Staff at the school told police that kids leave these items in a bin outside the entrance when they arrive in the morning and retrieve them at the end of the day. This is the first instance of theft reported in the several years of the practice.

“Many students use their skateboards and/or scooters to commute to school. Naturally, they are very upset and are left to wonder why someone would stoop so low and take their prized possessions,” O’Brien said, adding that officers are hoping to recover the items.
