Snowfall warning issued for Sea to Sky Highway

Anyone planning to drive on the Sea to Sky Highway Saturday is being warned of hazardous conditions on the route due to heavy snow.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a snowfall warning for the highway between Squamish and Whistler, as well as the wider Whistler region, on Saturday afternoon.

The weather agency says a “strong push of moisture” will bring 15 to 20 centimetres of snow to the area by the evening.

“Even though much of the Sea to Sky highway is seeing some snowfall, the worst of it is expected past Daisy Lake and towards Whistler,” the alert reads.

“Travel will likely be challenging. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Local utility outages are possible.”

The warning comes as Metro Vancouver is bracing for an atmospheric river that is forecasted to bring up to 125 millimetres of rain to the region by Monday.
