Sisters illegally provided cosmetic injections that caused ‘bodily deformities,’ B.C. regulator alleges

The B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons has filed for an injunction against two sisters, accusing them of illegally providing cosmetic injections that caused a woman to suffer “bodily deformities.”

The petition, filed earlier this month in B.C. Supreme Court, alleges Bimaljeet Kaur Virk and Rajan Kaur Virk have been “carrying on a medical practice” without proper registration, in violation of the province’s Health Professions Act.

“Only registrants of the college may lawfully practise medicine,” it reads. “This includes diagnosing and treating for cosmetic procedures, including the injection of botulinum toxin and certain dermal fillers, and holding oneself out as qualified to do so.”

The petition details a complaint from a woman who said she arranged an appointment with the Virk sisters over Instagram in October 2024, and paid them $15,800 for body contouring services.

“Amongst the pre-procedure conversations, Rajan told the complainant to tell a physician that she had a toothache as a ruse to receive a prescription for antibiotics to take following the procedure,” the document alleges. “The complainant did so.”

The woman said she received 2,200 millilitres of filler injections called “Avanescence” on Oct. 19. Over the following days, a “blood-tinged gelatinous fluid” began leaking from an injection site, according to the college’s petition, and “Rajan advised the complainant to apply medical-grade glue to the wound to seal it.”

“The complainant could not procure any, and Rajan used UberEats to send the complainant super glue from a nearby (7-Eleven),” it reads.

The woman eventually began leaking fluid from two other sites on her body, and required care at St. Paul’s Hospital, the college said.

“The doctor told her that the fluid leaking out of her was filler and necrosis from her fat cells dying,” reads the petition. “The doctor told her that there was no cause for surgical intervention, but that the complainant should continue to let her wounds drain, and follow up with her family doctor.”

The leaking ultimately stopped on Nov. 29 of that year, more than a month after it began, according to the document.

“The complainant was left ill, and with scars/deformities that will require further medical action to correct because of the Virk sisters’ actions,” it reads. “This behaviour is deserving of reproof or rebuke.”

If granted, the court injunction sought by the college would bar the Virks from practising medicine – including elective cosmetic procedures – without registration.

None of the allegations against the sisters have been proven. They have not filed a response to the college’s petition, and CTV News has been unable to reach them for comment.

The B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons said it could not comment on the case while it is before the courts, but that more information on the general risks of using unlicensed practitioners is available on its website.
