An early morning shooting left bullet holes in a Surrey home on Monday, prompting an investigation in the city’s Newton neighbourhood. Surrey Police Service says the owner of a home in the 7500 block of 126A Street did not witness the shooting, but discovered bullet holes in his door and front window. “Neighbours and CCTV video confirm that the shooting occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m.,” SPS said in a statement Monday. “Currently, there is no indication that this shots fired incident is connected to extortion.” Extortion has been a major focus for Surrey police in recent months. As of March 16, Surrey Police Service says officers have received 77 reports of extortion this year, including 11 incidents involving shots fired and two arsons. Of the 34 victims identified so far, police say 21 of them have been targeted more than once.
