Police in Richmond are asking the public for help identifying an assault suspect more than two months after the assault in question occurred. Richmond RCMP issued an appeal for witnesses Thursday as they look to advance an investigation that began on June 28 in the city’s northeast. Around 7:30 p.m. that day, a woman was walking on Greenland Drive near No. 5 Road when she was approached by “an unknown male riding a bicycle,” police said in their statement. “During the interaction, the woman was assaulted before the suspect fled the area,” the statement reads. Police described the suspect as a white man in his 30s with a “medium build,” black hair and a black moustache. He was wearing sunglasses, a green T-shirt and grey shorts. Anyone who was in the area between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and witnessed the incident or saw a cyclist matching the description should contact Richmond RCMP, police said. Dash-camera or other video recorded in the area during that time would also be helpful, according to police. “We are asking anyone who may have seen something unusual in the area, or who may have relevant video footage, to come forward and speak with investigators,” said Cpl. Melissa Lui, in the release. “Even seemingly minor information could help advance this investigation.” Mounties did not explain why they waited more than two months to notify the public and request witness information in this case.
