Residents of a typically quiet townhouse complex in Surrey have told CTV News they are shocked and terrified after a barrage of gunfire left a man dead Saturday. Officers with the Surrey Police Service were called to the 15100 block of 60 Avenue around 6:40 p.m. for reports of shots fired. “Upon arrival, members located a man apparently suffering from gunshot wounds,” the statement from the department said. “Despite life saving efforts the man was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.” Everyone CTV News spoke to on Sunday said they were too fearful to provide their names or be interviewed on camera—but they all offered information about what unfolded, saying the shooting happened while it was still light out at a time when children would normally be playing outside. In CCTV video provided to CTV News at least 30 shots can be heard ringing out behind the complex as a person screams. Residents said they saw the victim being chased by two seemingly young men in masks and hoodies who fired multiple rounds into the victim after he had fallen to the ground. A neighbour who went outside after the shooting to try to render first aid said it was immediately clear the man was dead, describing multiple visible gunshot wounds. Another resident was making dinner when the gunfire erupted. “I didn’t dare look out the window,” he said.
