Recognize this man? Suspect sought in Abbotsford sexual assault

The Abbotsford Police Department released this photo of a man they say is a suspect in a sexual assault investigation.

A woman was sexually assaulted in an Abbotsford park Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities, who are trying to identify a suspect.

Officers were called to Fishtrap Creek Park around 12:45, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a statement posted to social media.

“A female victim reported that she was walking alone in the area when she was approached by a male who attempted to engage her in conversation and followed her for a short distance,” police said.

“When the victim attempted to leave, the male sexually assaulted her. She was able to flee and alert nearby witnesses, who then called the police.”

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

Investigators have released a photo of a man they are attempting to identify, telling anyone who sees him not to approach and to call 911.

“The AbbyPD Major Crime Unit is in the early stages of this investigation. Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the male in the photograph,” the statement from police said.
