Popular B.C. campgrounds to reopen after flood damage repaired

Campers will soon be able to reserve spots at one of B.C.’s most popular parks, which has been closed for months while crews repaired flood damage.

Sections of the road leading to the campgrounds in Golden Ears Park were washed away in October of last year after a storm battered the region.

Access to the park is expected to be restored by March 17, and online reservations for its three campgrounds will open on March 19 at 7 a.m.

“Golden Ears Park is a natural treasure and the most popular park for camping in B.C.,” said Environment Minister Tamara Davidson, in a news release.

“We know it was difficult having most of the park closed this winter from the impacts of climate change, but visitor safety is our top priority.”

The earliest available dates to book a site at Gold Creek will be March 28, and spaces at Alouette and North Beach will be available starting April 16.

“Reservations for all campgrounds will be released on a four-month rolling window,” the statement from the province said.

Visitors are being warned to expect traffic delays in parts of the park where repairs are still underway. Some trail closures also remain in effect due to storm damage.
