Police share photo of suspect in attempted robbery at Courtenay ATM

More than a month after an attempted robbery at an ATM, police in Courtenay are releasing a surveillance photo of the suspect in hopes of furthering their investigation.

The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the ATM outside the Bank of Montreal branch at 585 England Ave., Comox Valley RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

Officers were called to the location at that time for “a report of an attempted robbery,” in which a man approached a woman who was using the ATM and “produced an edged weapon,” police said.

“The suspect was not successful and subsequently departed the area,” the release reads.

Mounties did not say why they waited more than a month to release the photo of the suspect, who they described as a white man in his “mid-to-late 40s.”

He stands approximately 5′10″ and was wearing a dark green rain jacket with a small yellow “Weed Man” logo at the time of the crime, police said.
