Mounties in British Columbia’s Okanagan region are searching for a motorcyclist who allegedly evaded police after performing stunts on Highway 97. The West Kelowna RCMP says officers saw the motorcyclist driving dangerously, including on one wheel, in the middle of the highway near Grizzly Road shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday. According to police, the motorcyclist was at one point travelling alongside the RCMP vehicle. When officers activated their emergency lights and siren, the rider reportedly accelerated away at high speed. “For public safety reasons, no pursuit was initiated, and officers discontinued their attempt to stop the motorcycle,” the RCMP said in a news release Friday. Investigators released an image of the rider captured on a police body camera. The motorcycle, described as a white sport bike, was last seen travelling southbound on Highway 97. The rider is described as a white man wearing a white helmet. Police are asking the public for help identifying and locating the rider. “Choosing to accelerate away from police at a high rate of speed is reckless and unacceptable,” Const. Ash Puri said in a statement. “While officers discontinued their attempt to stop the motorcycle in the interest of public safety, we remain committed to identifying the rider,” he added. “We encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist investigators.” Anyone with information or images related to the incident is asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
