One person is dead after a tragic accident at a Vancouver SkyTrain station Friday night, according to Metro Vancouver Transit Police. The victim died after being struck by a train at Main Street–Science World Station, MVTP said in an email to CTV News on Saturday. Officers were called to the station just after 8 p.m. and located “an individual in medical distress,” MVTP said. “Despite life saving measures by first responders, the individual was pronounced deceased on scene,” the agency said. “The station was closed to the public while officers investigated and awaited the arrival of the coroner.” Police said they believe the death was accidental, and criminality is not suspected. MVTP did not share any identifying details about the deceased, such as their age or gender. TransLink reported that the station closed at 8:20 p.m., saying in a statement on social media that trains were stopping at Stadium–Chinatown and Commercial–Broadway stations, with a bus bridge set up between them. The bus bridge remained in place for several hours, with normal SkyTrain service resuming around 12:40 a.m.
