A pedestrian has been hospitalized after being struck in a collision involving two vehicles in Maple Ridge on Monday morning. In a news release, Maple Ridge RCMP said officers were called to the scene around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Laity Street. “Officers on scene learned that a pickup truck travelling eastbound on Lougheed Highway struck a grey four door Mazda travelling northbound on Laity Street,” Mounties said in the release. “The collision caused a pedestrian to be subsequently struck who was crossing a crosswalk in the area.” RCMP said the pedestrian was taken to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers remained on scene and were not hurt in the incident. Authorities said the eastbound lanes of Lougheed Highway were shut down for a short period of time but they have since been reopened. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway.
