‘Multiple’ people arrested after firearm threats in Merritt, RCMP say

A report of threats involving a firearm led to a search warrant being executed and the arrest of “multiple” people in Merritt, according to Mounties.

After learning a suspect had fled to a home in the 2100 block of Quilchena Avenue on Tuesday, officers contained the area and obtained a search warrant.

Police said weapons and drugs were found during the search, which resulted in a number of arrests.

“This was another great example of co-ordinated police work and teamwork across multiple units,” said Merritt RCMP Sgt. Josh Roda is a news release Wednesday. “Merritt General Duty, General Investigation Section, Indigenous Police Services and B.C. Highway Patrol all worked together to bring this situation under control safely and effectively.”

Mounties said the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be considered.

Authorities are reminding residents that reports involving firearms and threats to public safety are taken seriously and should be reported immediately.
