A 62-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle crash in the B.C. Interior, and local Mounties say they believe the crash happened after he swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the road. The incident occurred Saturday evening around 7 p.m., according to a Tuesday statement from Castlegar RCMP. The detachment said its officers, along with other first responders, were called to Highway 3 east of Castlegar for a single-vehicle motorcycle collision. When they arrived, they found a motorcycle with “significant damage,” police said. Its lone occupant had died from his injuries. “Early indications suggest the motorcyclist was travelling along the highway when he encountered wildlife that had entered the roadway,” the statement reads. “Investigators believe that, in an attempt to avoid a collision, the rider took evasive action, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and enter the ditch.”
