A 72-year-old man was killed when he crashed his ATV in B.C. Wednesday, according to authorities. The West Kelowna RCMP said the man was off-roading near the site of the former Gladstone Mine in Peachland when he went off the trail. “The rider was travelling in the area with a companion on trails commonly used by off-road vehicles when he became separated from the other rider,” Mounties said, in a statement. “Preliminary investigation indicates the ATV left the trail, travelled down a steep embankment, and rolled before coming to rest against trees.” The man died from his injuries at the scene, according to police. Search and rescue volunteers were called in to recover the rider and his vehicle, and the investigation thus far has ruled out impairment as a contributing factor, the detachment said. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” said West Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Ash Puri, in the statement. The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating alongside police in an attempt to determine the cause of the crash.
