A 37-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged random assault on a restaurant worker in Vancouver, according to police. The Vancouver Police Department said a concerned citizen reported a man was yelling out profanities in the Mount Pleasant area around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived on scene, they found the man reportedly throwing an object at a vehicle. Police said the suspect ran off as they were attempting to arrest him, but after a brief chase they were able to track him down in a bush nearby. After taking the man into custody, officers connected him to an earlier alleged assault on a restaurant worker in the area. The worker sustained a dislocated shoulder in the attack, police said. “The suspect has recently arrived in Vancouver and has been the subject of over five calls to police this week,” Const. Megan Lui said in a news release on Wednesday. “The assault appears to have been unprovoked and the motive is unknown at this time.” Victor Coscarella—originally from Ontario—has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and obstructing a peace officer. Coscarella remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
