A 57-year-old Mission, B.C., man has been charged in connection with an unprovoked assault on a taxi driver in Maple Ridge last year and Mounties are now asking for the public’s help tracking him down. The assault happened shortly after a taxi driver picked up a passenger from an establishment in the 12900 block of 232 Street just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2025. Police said the driver was directed to a nearby location before the suspect abruptly told him to stop the vehicle and began assaulting him. RCMP said the victim suffered injuries to his face after being punched multiple times. The suspect also allegedly attempted to break the taxi’s CCTV camera and then reportedly smashed the vehicle’s windshield before fleeing the scene, police said. In a news release Thursday, Maple Ridge RCMP said Link Gaetz has been charged with assault and mischief under $5,000 in the incident. “Maple Ridge RCMP appreciates the public’s assistance in helping identify the alleged suspect,” Mounties said in the release. “Gaetz now has an outstanding arrest warrant for these charges and police are asking for the public’s further assistance in locating him.” Authorities described Gaetz as a white man, 6’4” tall and approximately 252 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.
