Man breaks into home while residents inside: Cranbrook RCMP

A man has been charged following a break-and-enter in southeastern B.C. last week, which left residents of the home shaken, according to police.

The Cranbrook RCMP says officers were called to a home on Corral Boulevard just after 9 p.m. Friday for a break-and-enter in progress.

“The homeowner reported that a man had entered the home by breaking through a glass door of the residence,” Mounties wrote in a statement Monday. “The suspect allegedly confronted the occupants inside the home, causing understandable distress, before fleeing the scene on foot.”

Officers searched the region with police dogs, but the suspect was not initially found, according to the statement.

On Sunday, the detachment received a “suspicious person complaint” of a man matching the earlier suspect’s description, and he was arrested “without incident,” police said.

Eric James Shepherd, who was born in 1983, now faces a charge of breaking and entering.

“Cranbrook RCMP thanks residents for their vigilance and co-operation as officers worked to identify and locate the suspect,” the statement reads.
