A Langley RCMP officer has been charged with dangerous driving one year after a crash on Fraser Highway, the B.C. Prosecution Service announced on Tuesday. In a statement, the BCPS said Langley RCMP Const. Denis Miano Maina is facing two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm in connection with the incident, which unfolded just before 2:30 a.m. on June 1, 2025. The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. took on the case in March of this year and later referred its findings to the BCPS for charge assessment. In a previous news release, the police watchdog said Maina was driving a marked RCMP vehicle eastbound when it collided with a white 2023 Hyundai Elantra at the intersection of Fraser Highway and 260 Street. The police officer, passenger and driver of the Elantra were treated by paramedics on scene before being taken to hospital as a precaution. The IIO later determined that the driver of the Elantra sustained injuries that met the threshold of serious harm under the Police Act. Maina is scheduled to appear in court on June 22.
