Man found burned in car identified by B.C. homicide investigators

Homicide investigators have publicly identified the victim of a recent killing police believe is related to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict.

Hamza Fazil, a 22-year-old Surrey resident, was found dead inside a burned vehicle in the Fraser Valley community of Popkum around 11:30 p.m. July 27, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Investigators said Fazil had previous interactions with police and they believe the homicide was targeted.

IHIT also shared that Fazil’s family reported him missing before he was killed and was last seen in Surrey on around 9 p.m. in the 13300 block of Old Yale Road.

“This investigation is still in the early stages,” said Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi with IHIT in Saturday’s update.

“Investigators are looking to build a timeline of Mr. Fazil’s activities prior to the homicide. We would urge anyone with information about him or his activities in the days leading up to his death to contact investigators.”

IHIT is specifically asking for anyone who has dash camera video from Cheam Road, where the vehicle fire happened, and Bridal Falls Road between 10 p.m. July 27 and 1 a.m. July 28 to call 1-877-551-4448 or email [e-mail].
