Environment Canada has extended the near-zero-visibility fog warning to Wednesday afternoon for areas of Metro Vancouver. The fog warning covers most of Metro Vancouver, including Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey and the Vancouver International Airport. The weather agency says a ridge of high pressure over B.C. is trapping moisture near the surface, creating areas of dense fog across Metro Vancouver, especially near the Strait of Georgia, Burrard Inlet, Boundary Bay and the Fraser River. Visibility may improve in the afternoons, but the fog is expected to return each night. Environment Canada says to allow extra time to reach your destination and if driving, turn on your lights, slow down, and maintain a safe following distance. YVR issued a statement on social media over the weekend warning passengers of possible disruptions due to reduced-visibility operations when pilots cannot see the runway well.
