Fire tears through sushi restaurant in New Westminster, B.C.

Crews responded to a fire at a New Westminster, B.C., sushi restaurant Tuesday night, and traffic impacts continued into Wednesday morning.

A fire tore through Ki Sushi in New Westminster, B.C., on Tuesday night, destroying the roof of the restaurant.

New Westminster police confirm to CTV News that the fire happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the restaurant on 8^th street.

Police are supporting New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services with traffic control as they investigate the cause of the fire.

Road closures are expected to last in the area for several hours.

Videos posted to social media describe the restaurant as a staple in the neighbourhood that has been around for decades.

Social media users say they could see the roof caving in and smell the fire from nearby condo buildings.
